The following was issued by MP Ashraf Rifi: “On the sixth anniversary of the Beirut Port bombing, we affirm that August 4 is not just a painful memory, but rather a crime described against Beirut and Lebanon, and a continuing crime as long as the killers remain unaccounted for, and as long as the full truth has not yet been revealed. Mercy to the martyrs of the port, a speedy recovery to the wounded, and salutes to the families of the victims who have fought, and are still fighting, a national battle in the face of attempts to obscure the truth, protect the perpetrators, and obstruct justice. The nitrate axis, and everyone who participated in bringing these deadly materials into Lebanon, or provided protection for them, or covered them up, or obstructed the investigation, bears political, judicial, and moral responsibility for the greatest crime that Lebanon has witnessed in its modern history. Also, everyone who besieged the judiciary, obstructed the investigation, and contributed to diluting the file is an accomplice in the continuation of this crime and in the attempt to evade the perpetrators from punishment. With the transformations that Lebanon is witnessing, we salute the efforts made by the Cassation Prosecutor, Judge Ahmed Rami Al-Hajj, the forensic investigator, Judge Tariq Al-Bitar, and Judge Muhammad Saab, for their effort and will to bring the file to justice, truth, and accountability, away from political pressures. We call on them to move forward, with boldness and independence, and we also call on the Lebanese judiciary to follow, as quickly as possible, the path of trials, to reveal the whole truth without any prohibitions or red lines, and to issue arrest warrants and judicial referrals against all those involved, no matter how high their positions are or how strong their political protection is, so that they receive the punishment they deserve. Justice may be delayed, but it will not die. The fourth of August will not remain an unpunished crime, because the blood of the martyrs is entrusted to the Lebanese, and because homelands are not built on oblivion or settlements with criminals, but on complete truth and complete justice.”
